Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 17, 2026

The short version. Hifz Quran is a private memorization companion. By default, your recitation is recognized on your iPhone with a built-in model, and it is not recorded, stored, or sent to us. The app also offers Apple's speech recognition as an option; if you use it, your recitation may be transcribed by Apple. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no ads. Your progress lives on your device, and, only if you choose, in your own private iCloud. We never see it.

This policy explains what Hifz Quran (“the app”, “we”, “us”) does with your information. Hifz Quran is made by Farhan Hossain. If anything here is unclear, email contact@farhanhossain.com.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers the Hifz Quran app for iPhone and this website, hifzquran.org.

2. Information we collect

Personal information we collect on our own servers: none. Hifz Quran has no login, no user accounts, and no backend that stores your data. We do not run analytics, advertising, or any tracking.

The app creates and stores the following on your device so it can work:

This data stays in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it.

3. Your recitation and the microphone

When you recite, Hifz Quran uses the microphone so it can follow along and confirm each word. By default, recognition is performed on your device by a speech model built into the app. In that case your audio is not recorded, not saved as part of your progress, and not sent to us or anyone else. It exists only for the moment it takes to recognize what you said, and is then gone.

The app also includes Apple's speech recognition, which you can select in Settings, and which the app falls back to if the on-device model is not available on your device. When Apple's recognizer is used, your recitation is sent to Apple to be transcribed: on devices that support on-device Arabic this happens on the device, and on devices that do not, Apple processes it on Apple's servers, handled under Apple's Privacy Policy. Either way, we never receive or store your recitation.

The app asks for Microphone permission for the built-in model, and for Speech Recognition permission for the Apple recognizer. You can turn these off at any time in Settings → Hifz Quran on your iPhone, though reciting-to-listen needs the microphone.

4. iCloud backup

Hifz Quran can back up your progress to your own iCloud so it follows you to a new phone. This uses Apple’s iCloud key-value storage tied to your Apple Account. It is your private iCloud data; we have no access to it, and it is handled by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. If you are not signed in to iCloud, the app simply keeps everything on the device.

5. Network access

Reading the mushaf and reciting with the built-in on-device model both work offline. The app uses the internet for:

Apart from the optional Apple path above, these requests fetch public content and carry no account, no identifier for you, and none of your progress.

6. No advertising, analytics, or tracking

Hifz Quran contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking software of any kind. We do not build a profile of you and do not track you across other apps or websites. Under Apple’s definitions, Hifz Quran is “Data Not Collected.”

7. Purchases

Hifz Quran is free and has no in-app purchases. If we ever added a paid feature, any purchase would be handled entirely by Apple through the App Store, and we would never see your card or billing details.

8. This website

This site is a simple set of static pages. It uses no advertising or tracking cookies and does not ask you to sign in. Our hosting provider may keep basic, non-identifying server logs (such as the type of request and a truncated address) to keep the site running and secure. If you email us, we keep your message so we can reply.

9. Children

Hifz Quran is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. Because the app has no accounts and collects no personal data, there is nothing for a child to submit to us. If you have a concern, email us and we will help.

10. Your choices and rights

Because your data lives on your device, you are in control of it. You can reset your progress in the app, and deleting the app removes its data from your phone. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA to access or delete personal data. Since we do not hold your data, most of this is already in your hands; for anything you send us by email, contact us and we will honor your request.

11. Security

Your data is stored in the app’s protected storage on your iPhone and is covered by your device’s own security, such as your passcode and encryption. No method of storage is perfect, but because your recitation and progress do not travel to our servers, there is very little for anyone else to reach.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and post the new version here. Meaningful changes will be noted on this page.
